IRS Publication 502, Listing of Approved Medical Expenses. (Please note that this IRS publication lists those medical expenses approved for deduction on IRS Form 1040. This list can also be used, with modifications, for Cafeteria plans. For example, Publication 502 states that over-the-counter medications are not eligible medical expenses for deduction on IRS Form 1040. However, the IRS has stated that many over-the-counter medications ARE eligible medical expenses under a Cafeteria plan. Please see our OTC Approved Listing.
